Fighting for Women's Reproductive Freedom and Dignity

What do pro-choice people mean by the term “forced birth”?Unless a pregnancy spontaneously miscarries, abortion is the only way to terminate it. Therefore, policies that prevent women from accessing abortion force them to remain pregnant and subsequently give birth.

I am a conservative. What does the pro-choice position have in common with my values?Individual liberty is a main conservative value, as shown by castle doctrine, “stand your ground” laws, and support of the right to own firearms. Pregnancy termination is self-defense from physical harm and from living, self-aware humans experiencing unwanted use of their internal organs, bones, and genitalia. Attempts to treat pregnancies as people would lead to extreme State encroachments on personal freedom that extend far beyond abortion bans.

Do I need to be a feminist to support abortion access?Feminism is the view that women and girls universally experience oppression due to their biological gender; it is focused specifically on female people. But supporting abortion access comes from the principle that freedom from being compelled to fulfill others’ needs with one’s own body parts is a universal human right, independent of gender or medical status. You do not have to take action to dismantle other systems of oppression to support all people’s dignity and inherent right to defend themselves from harm or servitude.

I have heard that abortion bans are unconstitutional, but there is no right to abortion in the American Constitution."While the Constitution does not specifically mention pregnancy termination, the Thirteenth Amendment, passed in 1865 does outlaw subjecting any person to involuntary servitude, other than punishment for a crime. Compelled use of persons’ bodies as passive resources for others’ needs naturally would be covered under “involuntary servitude,” and neither having sexual intercourse nor being female nor being pregnant is a crime. In addition, it would not be possible to declare pregnancies to be persons and treat them as equivalent to children without making egregious and impractical violations of existing persons’ rights, forbidden by the Fourth Amendment. For instance, in the United States, each person is entitled to a legal identity. Assigning pregnancies legal documentation of their existence would require constantly monitoring women for their pregnancy status and then keeping their private medical information (that they are pregnant) on file with a government agency by force.

What is the pro-choice stance on vaccine mandates?I, the creator of this blog, do not support State intervention to coerce anyone to receive a vaccine, and view government attempts to legislate healthcare with great skepticism due to the violations already committed against women in the name of “life.” Beyond that, vaccines and other non-abortion-related topics are outside the scope of my blog.
